The good news is all vegetable plants are short in height and it is easy to grow short height plants at home.
Some vegetables grow on plants (peppers, eggplant) and some on vines like cucumbers, Melons, Pumpkins
It does not matter which type of vegetable you choose to grow at first.
The golden rule is always growing those vegetables at home that you and your family mostly eat. It can be Potatoes, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers, Mint, Lettuce, etc.
How does a vegetable grow?
The first thing you need to do is find a place in your home to grow vegetables. The backyard is a good place to grow healthy organic food. But the drawback of yard gardening is you need to grow vegetables according to the season. Moreover, you can’t grow any plant outside in winter (due to snowfall).
The best way to grow vegetables is indoors not outdoors. Grow them outside from April to October and them indoors from mid-October to mid-April.
Remember outdoor gardening needs you to deal with many problems like pets and insect attack, weed problem, unwanted plant diseases and many more.

Now coming back on what vegetables need to grow?
The basic requirements of growing all vegetables, flowers, and fruits are the same. The difference is in the dosage, some plants need more water some less, some need 15 hours of light and some need just 5 to 8 hours.
Light, Water, Correct Temperature, Humidity, and Nutrients & Fertilizers are the basic needs.
Let’s know more about them
Light
We all studied in our high schools that plants need light for preparing their food and the process of making their food is called photosynthesis. You can’t grow a plant with enough light.
There are two methods of giving enough light to your plants
One is Sunlight, grow your plants outdoor and they automatically receive sunlight and perform photosynthesis.
Second is use Grow Lights, these are man-made artificial grow lights that are based on the light spectrum of the sun. Our Sun gives us a full spectrum of light means it contains all the light wavelengths and colors.
On the other hand, LED grow lights also emit the full spectrum of light, means these lights copy the spectrum of the sun. They contain Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, White, etc light spectrums or colors.
A plant cannot make difference between a LED grow light and Sunlight. Grow lights are safe to use at home and plants grown under them are safe to eat with high nutritional values.
NASA uses LED grow lights to grow plants in space. In greenhouses, farmers use grow lights to grow plants.
Water
Every living thing that is present on earth need to drink water more or less for living. Without water there is no life, this is the reason our scientists search for water at first when they found a new planet.
Vegetables also need enough water to grow. It is true that some vegetables need more water than others. How you know which vegetable needs how much water, read our vegetable guides you will find every single detail.
Water help plants to keep them cool and to produce juicy vegetables. Of course, hydration is key to growing healthy plants.
Temperature
From temperature we mean giving your vegetables a suitable environment to grow. The vegetables you grow in summer are warm vegetables. Because they need high temperatures to grow. Whereas vegetable like lettuce doesn’t survive in a hot climate.
The temperature between 18 to 28 degrees C is good for vegetables. Whatever temperature is comfortable for humans is also good for plants. Only green leafy vegetables like to grow in cooler temperatures.
If you are using Grow TENTS for growing vegetables you can control the temperature efficiently. Grow tents are specially designed to safely grow vegetables at home. They also protect your vegetables from pets, pests, and insects.
Humidity
Humidity is important for vegetables like it is important for us. Too low or too high humidity is not good for any living thing. 40% to 50% humidity level is perfect for an indoor vegetable garden. Use humidity meter to measure the humidity.
Controlling humidity for vegetables at home is extremely easy. We will talk about it in some other article.
Nutrients & Fertilizers
Vegetables need Nitrogen, Phosphorous and potassium in high quantity along with other nutrients like Iron, Calcium, magnesium, and zinc.
Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium are denoted by NPK. When you see 20-10-10 written on the fertilizer bags and liquid nutrient bottles. It means that particular bottle or bag of nutrients contains 20 % nitrogen, 10% phosphorous and 10% potassium else are other macronutrients.
Every plant needs a fair amount of nutrients to grow. When you grow them outside, they get many nutrients from the soil. But in indoor gardening, you have to give these nutrients to your plants by yourself.
Nutrients or fertilizers are cheap to buy. You can buy 4 gallons of the nutrient bottle with few bucks and it will last for more than a year.
